President Obama threw a bone to his liberal base this weekend by singling out a local independent bookstore for Small Business Saturday. Accompanied by daughters Sasha and Malia, the president made a Christmas shopping trip to One More Page Books in Arlington, Va.

The store's marketing manager, Lisa Chavez, tells Yeas & Nays that they had a visit from the Secret Service 10 minutes before the first family arrived and no other warning. The Obamas were prepared though, armed with a list of books they were looking for. They purchased 10 books, though Chavez declined to name the titles. "That is a private matter," she said.

A couple came in who had just gotten married and were having a reception across the street. The president spoke with them briefly. "The bride was absolutely walking on air," Chavez said.

As for Sasha and Malia, Chavez praised their "beautiful manners."

"Very unspoiled," she said.
