During the White House soul-music concert last night with Justin Timberlake, President Obama joked that he was one the “best-known Al Green impersonators.”

“Tonight, I am speaking not just as a President, but as one of America’s best-known Al Green impersonators,” he said as the crowd laughed.  “So I have a new appreciation for what Al once said about the Memphis Soul sound that he helped create — ‘We don’t even know ourselves how that music has endured for so long and how that came out of us.’

Obama sang part of Green’s ‘Let’s Stay Together” last year at a fundraiser at the Apollo Theater for his 2012 reelection campaign.

“Don’t worry Rev, I cannot sing like you, but I just wanted to show my appreciation,” Obama said to Green at the time, as the famous soul singer was present at the fundraiser.
