On Morning Joe today, the Obama campaign’s deputy director Stephanie Cutter explained that the presidential race was “roughly the same” in spite of President Obama’s bad debate performance.

“I think that if you look at the recent polls, the race is roughly the same as where it was before the debates,” Cutter explained, admitting that Mitt Romney made “modest gains.”

“The race is essentially the same as it was,” Cutter repeated before the Morning Joe panel interrupted.

“Stephanie, there is a collective roar from the far right and the far left on the set,” host Joe Scarborough said. “That’s nice spinning, but the race is tight. it’s very tight now.”
