White House Press Secretary Jay Carney has just announced that President Obama has canceled his campaign event in Orlando, Florida, and will return to the White House to monitor Hurricane Sandy.

Obama was in Orlando yesterday, making a surprise visit to a local campaign office.

Before he left, the president visited FEMA headquarters yesterday to monitor storm preparations. “So my main message to everybody involved is that we have to take this seriously,” Obama warned.  “The federal government is working effectively with the state and local governments.  It’s going to be very important that populations in all the impacted states take this seriously, listen to your state and local elected officials.”

Update: The White House just announced that President Obama has also canceled his Tuesday campaign event in Green Bay as well.
