Amid reports that President Obama is preparing to send weapons to Syrian anti-government rebels, the White House on Wednesday said no decision has been made.

“We have not and are not providing arms to the Syrian opposition but we are continuing to review our options,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said.

Obama is facing growing pressure to intervene in the Syrian conflict after U.S. intelligence officials said they believed President Bashar al-Assad had used chemical weapons against his own people.

In the past, Obama has opted not to arm the rebels, citing concerns that such weapons could fall into the hands of extremist groups.

Again, Carney said Obama is weighing a series of possible response options. Those include arming the rebels and setting up a no-fly zone over Syria. Both Republicans and Democrats alike say they are against putting American boots on the ground in Syria.

The Washington Post first reported that Obama was leaning towards providing arms to the rebels.
