President Obama will host Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki at the White House on Nov. 1, officials announced on Wednesday.

“The visit will highlight the importance of the U.S.-Iraq relationship under the U.S.-Iraq Strategic Framework Agreement,” the White House said. "The president looks forward to discussing with Prime Minister Maliki efforts to enhance cooperation in the fields covered under the SFA, and to coordinating on a range of regional issues."

The visit comes as the administration pursues new talks with Iraq's neighbor Iran on its nuclear program and Secretary of State John Kerry is looking to negotiate a post-war security deal with Afghanistan.

Obama is also likely to touch on United Nations' efforts to disarm Syria's chemical weapons arsenal. The administration has also previously expressed concern that Iran was using Iraqi airspace for flights carrying weapons for embattled Syrian dictator Bashar Assad.
