SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — A defense attorney says a former dance teacher at a Santa Ana high school has been acquitted of charges that he sent sexually suggestive text messages to a 15-year-old student.
City News Service reports 54-year-old John Juul Nielson was emotional after being acquitted Tuesday.
Nielson's attorney Ed Flores says the Orange County High School of the Arts instructor exchanged friendly messages with a female student, and there was no evidence of sexually suggestive text messages ever having been sent.
The girl claimed to have deleted the ones that were sexually suggestive.
Prosecutors didn't immediately return a call seeking comment.
Flores says Nielson was fired from his job on Jan. 13, 2012, and his wife and three daughters have suffered since the allegations.
