A Saturday morning crashed killed an off-duty Bladensburg police officer who was a nine-year veteran of the force.

Authorities said that Brian Johnson was driving in Anne Arundel County when he crossed the center median of Route 100 and slammed into an oncoming vehicle.

Doctors at a Glen Burnie hospital later pronounced him dead, and investigators are looking into whether Johnson experienced a medical emergency ahead of the crash.

Bladensburg's police chief called Johnson "a cherished member" of the department and said he "will be missed by all." Johnson was also a volunteer firefighter.
