An Prince George's County police officer crashed his marked SUV while he was on duty, police said.

About 2 a.m. Monday, the officer was turning from Baltimore Avenue onto Contee Road in Laurel when his vehicle struck a curb. The SUV then flipped over and struck a lamp post, which fell and damaged several parked cars, according to Prince George's County police.

The officer, a two-year veteran of the police department, was taken to a hospital and has since been released. No one else was injured during the incident.

A preliminary investigation found that speed and weather may have been factors in the crash.
