MARTINSVILLE, Va. (AP) — Virginia transportation officials are encouraging race fans heading to the Martinsville Speedway this weekend to follow recommended traffic routes to minimize congestion.

The STP 500 Sprint Cup race will be held on Sunday.

The Virginia Department of Transportation says signs and message boards will be placed throughout the region to assist travelers, who should plan to arrive early and expect heavy traffic and delays.

The speed limit on the U.S. Route 220/Route 58 bypass will be reduced gradually from 65 mph to 35 mph as motorists approach the speedway.
