Oil ends higher, above $88 a barrel

The price of oil rose Friday afternoon after Israeli troops fired on crowds in Gaza surging toward the border fence.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange:

Benchmark crude rose 90 cents to finish at $88.28 per barrel.

Gasoline lost 5.6 cents to end at $2.7439 a gallon.

Heating oil rose 4.9 cents to finish at $3.0771 a gallon.

Natural gas lost 0.2 cents to end at $3.901 per 1,000 cubic feet.

On the ICE Futures exchange in London:

Brent crude rose 83 cents to finish the day at $111.38 per barrel.
