CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The highlight of gold medal-winning gymnast Aly Raisman's trip to Charlotte thus far? Meeting actress Eva Longoria in the Newark airport before her flight down.
"Meeting Eva Longoria was so cool and so exciting, I've watched 'Desperate Housewives' for so many years and I'm a huge fan, so it was just really cool to talk to her and she was so nice and we just talked about fashion and all different kinds of stuff," Raisman told Yeas & Nays.
Raisman and her teammates Jordyn Wieber and Gabby Douglas joined other U.S. Olympic team athletes Wednesday to talk about health and fitness at a "Kids' Health Goes Gold" event held at the Foundation for the Carolinas building. And while political protests and various politicking was going on all around outside, the event had nothing to do with the Democratic National Convention nor did anyone delve into politics.
None of the three gymnasts had even watched Michelle Obama's Tuesday night convention speech.
"Jordyn and I, we went shopping and got our nails and toes done yesterday," Raisman said. Douglas was on a plane and missed it, but stopped by the convention floor Wednesday to lead the delegates in saying the Pledge of Allegiance. After that, she's off again. "We have the [Video Music Awards] tomorrow, so that will be exciting," Douglas said. "But I'm mostly excited to see Lil Wayne."
