LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A math teacher at Omaha's Westside High School who studied math and physics in college so she could be a role model for girls in a male-dominated field is Nebraska's 2013 Teacher of the Year.

Angela Mosier, who's been teaching math at Westside Community Schools since 1999, was given the award on Monday during a surprise presentation by Nebraska Education Commissioner Roger Breed.

Mosier earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

She will be honored by the State Board of Education at a luncheon on Nov. 8 in Lincoln and will participate in the national teacher of the year competition later this year.
