Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley is teaming up with D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray and top K Street lobbyists next month to raise money for same-sex marriage legislation in Maryland.
O'Malley and Gray are headlining a fundraiser in Northwest D.C. on Oct. 2 at the Logan Circle home of Steven Elmendorf, a top Democratic lobbyist who has close ties to the White House.
Other guests include Jeff Trammell, a Democratic lobbyist and consultant, James D'Orta, a physician and CEO of Consumer Health Services Inc., and Chip DiPaula, Maryland's former budget director.
Tickets cost between $250 and $1,000. The money will go to Marylanders for Marriage Equality, a group that is trying to persuade Maryland voters to approve same-sex marriage legislation on their November ballots.
The legislation was passed by the General Assembly in February but opponents stopped it form being implemented because they gathered enough signatures on a petition to put the issue before voters at the ballot box in November.
