Omega Protein reopens after fatal explosion


MOSS POINT, Miss. (AP) — Omega Protein has reopened its Moss Point plant following a fatal explosion on July 28.

The Sun Herald reports ( ) the reopening came Thursday after a comprehensive inspection of equipment at the plant.

The company's fishing vessels went out Wednesday night and the plant reopened when those vessels returned.

The explosion killed 25-year-old Jerry Lee Taylor II, Big Point, and injured three other workers.

It occurred while Taylor and Josh Walls were welding on top of a storage tank.

Walls remains in serious condition in the intensive care unit at Singing River Hospital.

An investigation into the explosion is continuing.
