One person is dead after a fiery crash, officials said, and a Prince George's County police officer who tried to rescue the victim was injured.

About 12:40 p.m. Monday, police were called to a crash at Martin Luther King Highway at Whitfield Chapel Road. One vehicle had crashed and burst into flames, police said.

Police tried to get the victim out of the car, and one officer sustained injuries in the process. The officer was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Copeland said.

The vehicle's occupant was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
