MANTEO, N.C. (AP) — The National Park Service wants to hear from the public on a proposed fee increase for climbing the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and a new fee for the Bodie Island Lighthouse, which has been renovated and will reopen to visitors later this year.

A fee of $8 per person is proposed for a limited number of guided tours of the Bodie Island Lighthouse, which has been closed during a four-year renovation. Park rangers will conduct guided tours of the 1871 structure, including a view from the top balcony.

The fee for the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse hasn't increased in five years. The fees now are $7 for adults and $3.50 for children, seniors and disabled. The proposal increases the fees to $8 and $4.
