A California man was arrested at Washington Dulles International Airport after officers found nearly 5 ounces of opium inside bottles of shampoo and lotion, authorities said.

Mehdi Moshirian, 63, is charged with state drug-related offenses, according to court records. He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 23 in Loudoun County General District Court.

Moshirian arrived at Dulles from Frankfurt late on Feb. 28. In an examination of his belongings, an x-ray machine detected anomalies in two shampoo bottles and in one container of lotion, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials.

CBP officers then removed baggies of a white substance from the bottles. The substance tested positive for opium and has a street value of about $4,000, officials said.
