A prosecutor from Howard County has been assigned to assist with the investigation into a boat crash involving a Maryland State Delegate from Anne Arundel County, officials said.

In August, Del. Don H. Dwyer's boat collided with another boat on the Magothy River near Pasadena. Dwyer and several others, including a few children, were injured. The day after the crash, Dwyer admitted that his blood-alcohol content level was more than twice the legal driving limit at the time of the incident.

Kristin Fleckenstein, spokeswoman for the Anne Arundel County State's Attorney's Office, said Monday that "it was in the best interest of all parties" for another county to handle the matter so that there is no perceived conflict of interest. Two members of the House of Delegates work in the county's state's attorney's office, and Dwyer is known by people in the office, she said.

The Howard County prosecutor will work with authorities from other agencies to investigate and to determine whether charges should be filed, Howard County State's Attorney's Office spokesman Wayne Kirwan said.
