Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker’s plan to create a $50 million fund to lure businesses to the county is slated to be introduced before the County Council this week.

Baker's economic development fund would loan money to existing and potential commercial businesses. He announced it as part of his proposed fiscal 2012 budget.

Legislation creating the fund is scheduled to be introduced Tuesday at the request of Baker, according to the council's agenda. It will then be referred to the council’s Public Safety and Fiscal Management Committee.

The proposed legislation said the loans would be used to “finance land, buildings, machinery and equipment, and other associated costs” as well as “operating expenses, training expenses, relocation expenses and permit fees.”
