CHICAGO — An attorney disciplinary board has recommended that Rod Blagojevich's former chief of staff be suspended from practicing law for three years for his role in the imprisoned former governor's attempt to sell President Obama's old Senate seat.

The Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission's review board made the recommendation in a report released Wednesday.

The board recommends that John Harris, the former Blagojevich aide, be suspended. But the board rejected a suggestion from the attorney commission's administrator to disbar him, taking into account Harris' cooperation with authorities after his arrest.

The Illinois Supreme Court will make the final decision on Harris' discipline.

Phone messages for Harris and his attorney seeking comment were not immediately returned.
