Paper lobby battles direct deposit

Taxpayers benefit when government pays out benefits and refunds by electronic transfer. The paper industry benefits when the government uses paper checks and envelopes. So it’s no surprise the paper industry is lobbying to slow the federal government’s shift towards electronic notices and payments.

Consumers for Paper Options, a group that takes funding from trade associations like theEnvelope Manufacturers Association and Printing Industries of America, to establish a “right” to printed communication.
