Singer Pat Boone riffed on President Obama’s wealth during an event this morning for seniors citizens at the Republican National Convention, as he suggested that Obama’s attack on Mitt Romney is a case of “the pot calling the kettle black.”

‘The President has become quite wealthy and joined the top 1 percent in just the last 4 years, since he became President,” Boone cracked at an event hosted by 60 Plus, a conservative senior citizens organization. “Amazing, isn’t it? It took Mitt Romney 25 years of hard work, risk and tremendous skill. As one of his rewards, he and the rest of the 1%… now including Obama himself…get to pay 40% of all taxes already! Reminds me of the old ‘pot calling the kettle black’ analogy.”

Boone’s numbers are a little off. Obama join the ranks of the one-percenters — that is, he made more than $343,927 — for the first time in 2005, according to a USA Today survey of his tax returns. He was a United States Senator at the time, having won in 2004, and was also collecting royalties off of his memoir, Dreams from My Father.

The comedian dismissed the idea that the superior charm of Obama or Vice President Joe Biden should convince voters to re-elect them over Romney.

“Let’s assume tonight you experience sharp, crunching chest pains,” Boon said. “You know you need a heart specialist. Will you call a ‘nice guy’ with an enjoyable personality…or would you rather see a real specialist, regardless of his likeability, one whose patients usually go on living?”
