CHICAGO (AP) — The Democratic nominee for Illinois lieutenant governor has released 2013 federal and state income tax returns showing he earned $249,999 as superintendent of the Bridgeport, Connecticut public schools.
Paul Vallas left the Bridgeport job earlier this year after a two-year tenure in which critics pushed for his ouster. He also reported $12,340 in income from his education consulting firm The Vallas Group, as well as $2,045 in interest, dividend and other income, and a taxable refund of $2,994.
Vallas says he paid $14,329 in state income tax in both Connecticut and Illinois. He also paid $8,811 in property taxes on his home in Palos Heights.
He donated $2,988 to charity
Vallas is running with Gov. Pat Quinn. They face Republican businessman Bruce Rauner and his running mate, attorney Evelyn Sanguinetti.
