A pedestrian died after she was struck by a car in Arlington, police officials said.

About 4:35 p.m. Monday, a two-vehicle accident took place at Glebe Road and North Randolph Street. After the collision, one of the vehicles left the road, struck a 32-year-old woman who was on the sidewalk and then struck a tree, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said.

The woman was taken to a hospital, where she later died.

The driver of the striking vehicle, a 21-year-old man, was trapped in the car and had to be extricated by firefighters. He was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No charges had been filed against him as of Tuesday morning, Sternbeck said.
