Pedestrian fatally struck by Prius in Gaithersburg

A 37-year-old woman died after she was struck by a car in Gaithersburg, police said.

About 5:30 p.m. Monday, a 2006 Toyota Prius traveling northbound on Muddy Branch Road struck Yessenia M. Martinez Rivas, who was in the roadway near Suffield Drive, Montgomery County police said.

Martinez Rivas, of Gaithersburg, died at a hospital at about 11:15 p.m. Monday.

The driver, 66-year-old Daniel Levine of North Potomac, remained at the scene, police said. The circumstances of the crash are under investigation.
