Rep. Nancy Pelosi D-Calif. appeared to agree with President Obama’s comments last night that the status of Egypt as an ally of the United States was uncertain.

“I don’t know about the word ally. We’ll see,” Pelosi said during a press conference with reporters today.

“Egypt is, I believe, the largest Muslim country in the world. It is a force in the Middle East. It is a country with whom we must have a good relationship,” she said. “We have an interest in Egypt’s success. Let’s hope we can do that as allies.”

President Obama said last night that he wasn’t sure or not whether Egypt was an ally.

“I don’t think that we would consider them an ally, but we don’t consider them an enemy,” Obama said. “They’re a new government that is trying to find its way. They were democratically elected. I think that we are going to have to see how they respond to this incident.”
