After the October 2016 release of the infamous “Access Hollywood” tape in which President Trump spoke about groping women without their permission, first lady Melania Trump reportedly refused to appear in a proposed television interview alongside her husband as he apologized.
According to Bob Woodward’s forthcoming book, “Fear: Trump in the White House,” Kellyanne Conway, Trump’s then campaign manager, pitched Trump on a televised apology with his daughter Ivanka sitting on one side and Melania on his other side.

“Do we call 60 Minutes?” Conway asked, according to a copy of the book obtained by the Washington Examiner.
“You can’t do it Sunday because the debate’s on Sunday. … Or you call ABC or NBC and have him on the sofa with Ivanka on one side and Melania on the other, basically crying, saying I apologize,” she continued.
Woodward describes the future first lady as “seething.”
“Not doing that,” Melania responded. “No way. No, no, no.”
Melania did release a statement calling her husband’s comments “unacceptable” and “offensive to me.” She urged voters to accept his apology, as she had.
The book, set to be released Tuesday, offers a chaotic portrait of the White House under Trump. In response, the president has accused Woodward, a highly regarded journalist, of being a Democratic operative and having “credibility problems.”
