A pickup truck driver died after a multi-vehicle crash in Anne Arundel County, officials said.

The collision occurred at about 12:45 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of eastbound Benfield Boulevard and Veterans Highway in Millersville.

According to a preliminary investigation by the Anne Arundel County Police Department, a Ford Expedition and Honda CR-V were stopped on Benfield waiting for the a traffic light to turn green when a Dodge Ram pickup truck struck the Ford. That sport-utility vehicle was pushed into the rear of the Honda, which traveled across the intersection before coming to a rest.

The pickup truck's driver, 56-year-old James Robert Parker, was taken to a hospital and was pronounced dead at about 1:15 p.m. The driver and passenger in the Ford were not injured, and the Honda's driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

There is no evidence that Parker attempted to avoid the collision, officials said, and there is no evidence that drugs, alcohol or excessive speed were factors.
