A woman was stabbed on a Metro bus early on New Year's Day.

At about 2:20 a.m. a woman told the driver of a Metro bus that she had been stabbed by another passenger. The driver stopped the bus on MLK Jr. Ave. and W Street in Southeast, a Metro official said. The woman had lacerations to her chest and right shoulder. She was taken to a hospital, and was expected to survive.

Witnesses said the male suspect left the bus and fled on foot. Officials are reviewing surveillance video from the bus to determine what happened.

Three people were killed on Metro buses in 2012, including a woman who was shot while cluthcing her child in December.
