An 18-year-old student is in custody after Montgomery County police say a 15-year-old student was stabbed Monday morning at a Silver Spring high school.

Police charged Chidat Tarawally, of Silver Spring, with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and possession of a weapon on school property.

About 11 a.m. Monday, police got a call for a stabbing at Northwood High School, at 919 University Blvd. Police found a 15-year-old male student with a stab wound in the upper leg, and he was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injury.

Officers recovered a knife they believe was used in the attack.

The suspect had fled the school, police said, but returned to the campus and was arrested.

The investigation continued Monday afternoon.
