The woman killed in a car crash in Northeast D.C. on Tuesday morning has been identified as 72-year-old Catherine Cecelia Proctor.

Proctor, of Northeast D.C., was driving a 2009 Kia Optima on 12th Street NE near Varnum Street when the vehicle mounted a curb and crashed into a newspaper dispenser and a large tree. The Kia then reentered the roadway, continued across the intersection, mounted the curb and struck another tree, D.C. police said.

After the crash, D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel took Proctor to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
