Police identify man in standoff charged with murder

A man arrested after barricading himself inside a residence after a deadly shooting in Southeast Washington early Wednesday has been identified, D.C. police said.

The victim, identified by police as 24-year-old J'Ron Brown, was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest in the 1700 block of 17th Street SE about 2 a.m. Wednesday. Brown was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

The suspect, 23-year-old Derrick Babb, hid in a residence near the site of the shooting. He was taken into custody at 10 a.m. Wednesday and was charged with second-degree murder while armed, police said.
