DANVILLE, Va. (AP) — The Danville Utilities Department is under investigation following an audit that found overtime pay and credit card irregularities.
The city says in a news release that investigators also are looking at possible improper activities involving contracts.
As of Monday, the city says the investigation by the Danville Police Department has found evidence resulting in the firings of three employees. Two of the former employees face criminal charges.
City Manager Joe King requested the investigation following the internal audit, which was conducted last fall. King says in the release that the investigation is continuing.
King says additional details will be released later.
