A D.C. police officer shot an armed man in Northwest Washington, police said.
Shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday, three plain-clothes officers were patrolling near Georgia Avenue and Kenyon Street NW when they encountered an armed man, according to police and media reports. The man ran away, and police followed him into an alley in the 400 block of Kenyon Street NW.
The man, who was not being identified Thursday morning, pointed a handgun at one of the officers. That officer fired a weapon, hitting the man, police spokesman Officer Araz Alali said.
The man was arrested on charges of assault on a police officer and criminal possession of a weapon without a license, Alali said. He was taken to a hospital and his condition is unknown, Alali said.
No police officers were injured.
