Jay Lyon was last seen walking north on Richmond Highway in Lorton.
The Fairfax County resident, then 61, disappeared on April 21, 2005. He was last seen at about 11 a.m. near Telegraph Road and Pohick Road on Richmond Highway and hasn't been heard from since, according to information from the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, or NAMUS.
His car was found more than two weeks later in a shopping center parking lot on Gunston Plaza Drive in Lorton, according to NAMUS.
Lyon's family reported him missing after he did not contact them, the Virginia State Police said in their missing persons database. Lyon has emotional and mental issues for which he was taking medication, but he hadn't taken his medication for several weeks at the time of his disappearance, police said. He might be in distress, they said.
Lyon stands 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. He has brown hair and hazel eyes and was last seen wearing a long-sleeved green knit sweater and gray cotton pants.
Anyone with information on Lyon's whereabouts should call Detective Steve Milefsky at 703-246-7860 or Fairfax County police at 703-691-2131.
