Montgomery County police are looking for a man who assaulted and robbed an elderly woman at a supermarket in the Briggs Chaney area.

On Jan. 15, the woman was leaving the Safeway located at 13814 Outlet Drive when a man approached her from behind. The man threw the woman on the ground, robbed her of an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the area on foot, police said.

The woman sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene, police said.

The robber is described as a black man, 20 to 25 years old, about 6 feet 1 inch tall and 190 pounds. He was wearing a black knit hat, dark blue puffy jacket, and light khaki pants. He also had a black backpack.

Anyone with information can call police at 301-565-5835 or 301-279-8000. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Solvers at 866-411-TIPS (8477).
