Police believe that the Fairfax woman whose body was found in the Potomac River on Wednesday accidentally fell in the water from a dock on a tributary.

The woman has been identified as 66-year-old Cheryl Ann Alston, Prince William County police said.

Family members had reported Alston missing on Monday, police said. She had last been seen on Saturday night in the area of Marina Way in Occoquan, where she docked a boat on the Occoquan River.

On Tuesday, authorities searched the water near the dock but did not find Alston. The next day, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection helicopter located Alston in water off of Belmont Bay.
