"The Office's" Rainn Wilson and Academy Award-nominated actress Debra Winger lent their names and support as masters of ceremonies on Wednesday night for the Tahirih Justice Center's event at the Carnegie Institution of Washington. The 14th Annual Benefit Celebrating the Good Fellas recognized the role of men in achieving justice for women.
Winger has been working with Tahirih for several years and serves as a board member. Like Wilson, she was introduced to the organization through its founder Layli Miller-Muro and finds the work to be inspiring.
"Here is something that actually enacts real change that I end up seeing the results of and I think today we really need that." Wilson said. He added that while he may not be the typical poster boy for defending women's rights, it is an issue that he cares a great deal about, especially as a member of the Baha'i faith.
"It's kind of a weird fit, right? Like why is this dorky paper salesman, bee farmer, character actor speaking on behalf of women's rights, but it is so important to me and there are not many celebrities in the Baha'i faith," he smiled.
