Polk Elementary School students were evacuated and sent about a half mile away to Patrick Henry Elementary School after a water main break in Alexandria Tuesday morning.

The water main break on North Pickett Street required Alexandria City Public Schools to shut off the water at Polk Elementary. Just after noon Tuesday, there was still no estimate for when the water would be restored.

Polk students will finish the school day at Patrick Henry. Students who normally walk home from school will return to Polk with their teachers before beginning their walks. Students who ride the bus will be picked up from Patrick Henry.
