Governor Chris Christie is now more popular in New Jersey among registered voters than President Obama according to the Rutgers-Eagleton Poll released today.

According to the statewide poll, Christie’s favorably is now at 67 percent while Obama is at 61 percent among registered voters. (Christie was tied with Obama in the poll of all residents – at 65 percent)

Christie’s popularity jumped 19 points from the previous month, when he registered only 48 percent in October.

The majority of his high marks come from his handling of Hurricane Sandy as 92 percent of the poll respondents say the governor handled the crisis “very well” or “somewhat well.”

Eighty one percent of New Jersey voters approved of Christie’s decision to work closely with President Obama in the wake of the storm.

Newark Mayor Corey Booker, Christie’s possible Democratic rival for re-election, registered a 52 percent favorability rating.
