NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Pontchartrain Hotel has the New Orleans City Council's permission to resume operations as a hotel.
The 6-0 vote came at the request of Councilwoman LaToya Cantrell, whose district includes the site. Despite the action, though, only a few rooms are expected to be rented to short-term visitors.
The Times-Picayune reports (http://bit.ly/YgPZfh ) the city council voted Thursday to allow the Pontchartrain Hotel on Saint Charles Ave. to resume operations as a hotel, after operating as apartments for the elderly since 2008.
Regaining permission to operate as a regular hotel will have another benefit. As a hotel, the Pontchartrain will be able legally to offer live music in its cocktail lounge, the Bayou Bar.
