Two of the world's most respected leaders and NSA whistle-blower Edward Snowden delivered Christmas messages imbued with a theme of self-improvement on Christmas Day. Pope Francis, speaking on the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican, prayed for "peace to mankind." The United Kingdom's Queen Elizabeth, in her televised annual Christmas address, spoke of using the power of self-reflection, meditation and prayer "to help us to renew ourselves in God's love as we strive daily to become better people." Snowden, who delivered British television station Channel 4's annual alternative to the queen's Christmas message, said viewers should challenge the government data collection programs he exposed this year.
