Prince George's County police continue to investigate a 1996 parental abduction of a young Clinton boy.

In May 1996, Reuben Bennett Blackwell II was 3 1/2 years old when he was abducted by his father, Reuben Bennett Blackwell. Shortly after the boy was taken, the father sent the boy's mother a message describing how to make funeral arrangements for himself and his son, according to police and media reports.

Detectives went to Wisconsin in 2007 to follow up on a potential sighting of the boy. After interviewing the boy, police determined that he was not the missing Blackwell boy, Prince George's County police spokesman Lt. Bill Alexander said.

Reuben Blackwell II would now be 20 years old and might go by his middle name, Bennett. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children released an image of what Blackwell might look like at the age of 18.

In 2000, authorities obtained a warrant charging the elder Blackwell with unlawful flight. He would be 56 today and has been described as a black male, 6 feet 4 inches tall and 260 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information can call Prince George's County police at 301-868-8773 or the NCMEC at 800-843-5678.
