A 20-year-old man was shot and killed in College Park in an incident that appears to be gang-related, police said.

About 4 a.m. Sunday, officers went to the 9100 block of Baltimore Avenue and found David Esequel Avelar, of Hillcrest Heights, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A preliminary investigation by Prince George's County police found that Avelar had been attending a party at a hotel. He was shot during a fight in a parking lot that occurred between Avelar's group and a second group attending a different party at the hotel. Police are working to identify those involved.
