An antiabortion protester who climbed a tree near the U.S. Capitol building Monday and was yelling during the inauguration ceremony was taken into custody, according to officials and media reports.

The man climbed the tree at about 8:15 a.m. and held a sign that read, "Pray to End Abortion."

According to media reports, the man was about 30-to-40 feet above the ground in a tree near Garfield Circle. He reportedly yelled anti-abortion remarks during the ceremony.

The man came down from the tree shortly after the inauguration ceremony ended, but it was unclear whether he was forced down or came down voluntarily. U.S. Capitol Police took him into custody, and charges were pending against him Monday afternoon, according to Capitol Police spokesman Shennell Antrobus.
