GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — The publisher of The Greenville News says he is retiring at the end of October after more than 30 years with the newspaper.
Steve Brandt told the newspaper (http://grnol.co/1ooplRd) his decision was bittersweet, but he thinks it is time for him to pursue other interests and hand over the paper to a new leader.
Newspaper owner Gannett Co. announced Friday that Asheville (N.C.) Citizen-Times publisher Dave Neill will become the new publisher of The Greenville News as well after Brandt's last day Oct. 31.
Brandt started with The Greenville News-Piedmont Company in 1978, rising to become president and publisher in 1993. He became president of The Rochester (N.Y.) Democrat and Chronicle in 1995, but returned to Greenville four years later.
