Purdue to host international Great Lakes gathering

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Purdue University is expecting hundreds of scientists from around the world to descend on its main campus next month for a conference on the most recent research about the Great Lakes.

More than 600 people are expected to attend the June 2-6 Conference on Great Lakes Research, which is being held for the first time at the West Lafayette campus.

The gathering of scientists, environmentalists, economists and government officials will include wide-ranging presentations on the Great Lakes and other large lakes.

Purdue President Mitch Daniels will open the conference, which will include sessions on the impact of invasive species such as Asian carp on the Great Lakes. Researchers will also discuss recent findings on how climate change and contamination are affecting the Great Lakes basin.
