STORYLINE:

Israeli airstrikes struck more than 20 targets on Saturday in the Gaza Strip and killed a senior Hamas member, as militant rocket fire continued following the collapse of a three-day truce aimed at ending the war between Israel and Hamas.

Hamas officials said Israel airstrikes hit houses, mosques, its warehouses and training sites.

Three bodies were found under the ruins of the al-Qassam mosque in Gaza, including that of senior Hamas official Moaaz Zaid, according to a Palestinian health official.

Palestinians in Gaza salvaged religious texts from amid the destruction at the Hassan Al-Banna mosque on Saturday morning following one of the overnight airstrikes.

Another airstrike overnight hit a house belonging to the Alyan family in Beit Lahiya, in northern Gaza.

No injuries were reported.

Some Gaza residents said on Saturday they will continue to fight for their demands.

"Our demands are like the demands of any people: freedom, independence and to have an exit to the world because we live now in a big prison." said Talal Rasheed, Gaza resident.

Mohammad Abu Al Laban, another Gaza resident, said that they will "continue to support the resistance because there is nothing left to cry over in Palestine."

Israel's tanks remained nearby on Saturday.

Israel announced it had pulled all of its troops out of Gaza earlier in the week.

The Israeli military said militants in Gaza fired five rockets on Saturday toward Israel, bringing the total to 70 since the truce expired.

In response, Israel has targeted more than 30 sites in Gaza since Friday, it said.
