STORYLINE:

Rock-throwing protesters clashed with police firing teargas in the heart of the Egyptian capital, Cairo, for a seventh day on Wednesday.

Egypt has seen a wave of political violence as protesters vent their fury at the country's Islamist president Mohammed Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood.

They want his ouster and have virtually declared a revolt against his rule - prompting the head of the military, General Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, to warn that Egypt may collapse under the weight of its turmoil.

Wednesday's clashes took place near Tahrir Square, in the centre of Cairo.
